Air compressors are devices that increase the pressure of the air or gas by decreasing its volume in response to an increase in the pressure. Air compression is a special kind of mechanical air pump. Air compressors vary from those that are used for inflating tires, through to those that can be used to vent the accumulated gasses in an engine, to industrial-sized units that can be found in garages everywhere. Although most air compressors are used to increase the pressure of air or gasoline, there are a number of other uses for air compressors, as well. The most widely used air compressors, in fact, are those that work on crankshafts. Crankshafts are large shafts that are employed in machinery to produce the necessary power for an air-compressor to function. The crankcase is also referred to as the cylinders, and these are typically made out of cast iron or steel. However, these days they are usually made out of PVC or other polymer materials. The air pressure that the crankshaft exerts will cause a change in the size of the connecting rod, which will in turn alter the length of the crankshaft. The rotation of the rotor, which is commonly called a crankshaft, will force a fluid through the inlet valve and then to the outlet of the tank. In older versions of the compressor, this is often done with the help of a reciprocating piston. But nowadays, a crankshaft can generally be built separately from the cylinder. A connecting rod is then added to the piston to connect it to the crankshaft. This is usually what we refer to as a rotary valve. Rotary valves can also use more than one motor to increase their potential energy. For instance, a rotary valve can have two opposing fans, which would double their output of compressed air. This is especially useful in situations where there are excessive pressures. Two fans will provide more than double the air pressure that the single rotating cylinder could provide. Air compressors generally contain two main types of compressors - reciprocating and centrifugal. A reciprocating screw pump moves air in a manner similar to a screw jackhammer. Centrifugal air compressors move air in the same manner as the fan on a car or lawnmower. This type of compressor generally uses an electric motor to work. Although some air compressors are powered by only a single motor, most of them employ two pistons. A two-piston air compressor will commonly have a rotary screw pump attached to a cylinder, which rotates and pumps air into the system. One piston acts as an anti-screw and the other is a compression spring. The two pistons meet and push against each other when they rotate. This action pumps air into the system, which increases its potential energy. You can read more on this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch/90NBXCUN-Ec.
